Lake Planning
The Lake Planning program is supported by a partnership between FOCA and the Haliburton Highlands Stewardship Council with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
The goals of the Lake Planning program are to:
- Support waterfront property owners with community engagement, lake planning, and implementing actions in their communities.
- Gather input and feedback from volunteer lake communities to develop a toolkit of best management practices, advice, and resources to support lake planning and stewardship.
- Create a cost effective resource that is accessible and applies to waterfront communities across Ontario.
- Re-release and update Take the Plunge – Guide to Stewardship of Ontario’s Waters.
“Lake planning is a strategic process that provides the opportunity to engage all people, governments and business operators to develop and implement actions to maintain or improve the natural and social qualities of life on our lakes, rivers and shoreline communities.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation provided a generous grant for the program and French Planning Services provided knowledge and experience for compiling the content of the Lake Planning Handbook for Community Groups.
The Lake Planning Handbook for Community Groups is a 65 page “self help” guide for waterfront groups that will assist them with their lake planning initiatives. The content has been compiled from the experience and resources provided by over 40 associations across Ontario.
