The landscape of North of Superior is made up of both Boreal Forest and Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Forest regions. It supports a diverse habitat for wildlife such as moose, lynx, great gray owls, and many fish and wetland species. There are thousands of small lakes across the region. The largely coniferous forest cover throughout the region means it is important for residents and visitors to be FireSmart. This area is becoming a more popular place to purchase waterfront as people seek the natural beauty of this area. Local, municipal government is an important point of contact for many rural, waterfront issues. FOCA has compiled a comprehensive list of municipal contact information for your area which can be found in the Municipal Contacts link at left; these documents are searchable.
