Nov. 5, 2014 – Hydro One announced an investment of $82 million to replace 11,000 aging wood poles, part of its objective to replace as many as 340,000 of the 1.6 million poles in their distribution system over the next 10 years.
According to Hydro One, wood poles that need to be replaced during an unplanned outage as a result of a failure can leave customers in the dark when they most need to use electricity. The average life span of a wood pole is approximately 60 years.
Hydro One serves 1.3 million customers, including 157,000 classified as “Seasonal.”
