FOCA participated in the Canadian Water Summit, the Teeny Tiny Summit in Havelock of rural community partners and stakeholders, an OBC meeting in Guelph to discuss Ontario’s proposed Climate Change strategy and FOCA’s Cottage Succession Seminar series got on the road for 2017. FOCA travelled to Winnipeg for the AGM of member group, the Lake of the Woods District Property Owners Associations, and also supported and participated in the Muskoka Stewardship Conference “50 Shades of Green: All About Algae,” in Port Carling. FOCA participated in the Spring Cottage Life Show in Toronto and attended a workshop on Cottage Country Planning in Bracebridge. APRIL MAY JUNE Lake Stewardship Award A special Lake Stewardship Award was presented at the 2017 FOCA AGM by Anna DeSellas, the Lake Partner Program Coordinator, to King Baker of the Chandos Lake Property Owners Association for his years of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer service to the Lake Partner Program and other environmental initiatives. Online Involvement FOCA would like to recognize the Otter Lake Landowners Association for their amazing 58% FOCA Elert sign-up rate! How did they do it? By adding a checkbox to their association renewal form asking if members want to receive FOCA Elerts. Can you match that? FOCA participated in a “Kawarthas Naturally Connected” meeting about mapping natural heritage features, and created a final 2017 video greeting for our members: https://youtu.be/ENpI4XdZH00 FOCA hosted our Fall Seminar with special guests The Water Brothers and was part of the People’s Great Lakes Summit 2.0 in Toronto, on the state of freshwater policy and action. FOCA attended the Latornell Symposium and hosted a booth at Queen’s Park on Ontario invasives awareness for provincial politicians and staff. With Health Unit partners, FOCA recorded a video about cottage country septic systems, for release in 2018. FOCA was a sponsor and participant at Lake Links in Perth.
